I love this series. Here are Dan and Terry with some words of encouragement for GLBTG kids in the hell that is high school.

It Gets Better

Poets (and Other People) on Campus

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

You are all invited to my decidedly non-poetic reading and talk on Monday, September 20 at 4:00 in the Library Writing Centre (4th Floor, Rm. 474) at Vancouver Island University. I will be reading from The Woefield Poultry Collective and from my work-in-progress, Bright’s Purpose and talking about writing YA and switching between genres.

Poet Renee Masur will be reading some of her poetry to start us off.

After the reading, the festivities will move to 355/211 (the Liberal Arts Lounge) for a combination book launch for Keith Harrison’s new book, The Missionary, The Violinist and the Aunt Whose Head Was Squeezed – only the best title of any book this year — and the start-of-term creative writing Shindig.

We hope you can join us!

The Vancouver Edition, September 26

I will be reading in the Authors Tent from 3:20 to 3:40.

Don’t miss Peter Darbyshire, who will be reading from the excellent Warhol Gang right after. Richard Scarsbrook will be in the Canada Writes Tent at 1:40 and the Kids, Tweens and Teens Tent is going to be full of mayhem with Robin Stevenson reading from Ben’s Robot, James McCann from Flying Feet, Shar Levine and Leslie Johnstone from Scary Science, Carol Anne Shaw from Hannah and the Spindle Whorl, Rachelle Delaney from The Lost Souls of Island X, Maggie De Vries from The Hunger Journey, PJ Reece from Roxy, and Caroline Adderson and Billie Livingston from Film Studies/The Trouble with Marlene.

I’m also supposed to be on a writing panel with kc Dyer, Carrie Mac and John Wilson, but, um, I’m also supposed to be reading from Nice Recovery then. So… you will have a hard decision to make! Far be it from me to bribe, but I will say that I will not hit anyone in the audience with Lipsmackers or with cans of Spam, which has happened in the past.

I hope to see you there!
