Hello,
If you were to peruse my Calendar of Events, you might get the impression that I will be nowhere doing nothing this fall. Don’t believe it! The problem is that I’ve (ahem) completely forgotten how to operate the Google Calendar. I update it meticulously and what appears on my website is… nothing. Until I figure out the mystery, here is a partial list of what’s coming up:
September 29 I’ll be doing a reading and talk at Welsh Hall, courtesy of the West Vancouver Memorial Library (10:30-11:30/12:00). This is a North Shore Culture Days Event.
October 12 – 14 I will be appearing at the Whistler Writer’s Festival. Please click on the link for program details. I’ll be reading at the opening night ceremony and on the 13th, giving a workshop for young writers (anyone under 19 is welcome) at the Whistler Public Library (10-12) and a workshop on writing for young adults (1:30-3:00). There are all kinds of wonderful writers and events taking place during this festival: don’t miss it because if you do, we’ll miss you.
October 16-20 I will be appearing at the Vancouver International Writer’s Festival. I will put up the times, dates and locations as soon as I have them. I’ve noticed Micheal Chabon will be taking part in an earlier event, put on by the fine folks at the festival. Dear lord, Chabon’s hair is fantastic! Almost as good as Caitlin Moran’s!
I’ve just begun reading How to Be a Woman and am in a frenzy of admiration and appreciation. Thank you Caitlin Moran and all the other funny women (Fey, Dunham and many others) who are making feminism and woman-ness in general feel so cutting edge and exciting and generally excellent. It’s good to see standard bearer hilarious feminists like Meg Cabot get more company.
But back to the upcoming events. I will be appearing with the brilliant Susin Nielsen at Vancouver Kidsbooks on November 13. More details to follow. Susin will be promoting her new novel, The Reluctant Journey of Henry K. Larsen.
This book tore me to shreds in the best possible way. It’s funny and brutal and honest and sad and I predict that it’s going to be her biggest hit yet.
Okay, that’s it for now. There are several other events in the works, but the dates and times are fuzzy. I will post as I get more info.
If you’ve written to me recently and I haven’t gotten back to you, please forgive me. I’m a bit patchy as a correspondent. I try to write back to everyone who contacts me, but it sometimes takes months. Even years. I recently lost a computer and with it, all my old emails, including those from readers. If you don’t hear from me, please forgive! I appreciate any and all comments.
I especially love to see photos of gorgeous librarians reading my books. Thank you to the fine booktenders of Orillia for sheparding Woefield through the Orillia Big Read!
Finally, several people who know that I teach have contacted me asking about mentorships. I do a limited number each year, as time and my schedule permit. Drop me a line at andfurthermore@shaw.ca if you’d like more information. I’ve also prepared a document that covers appearances, keynotes, readings, workshops and mentorships that I can send along if you have questions.
Hasta la vista. Babies. heh.
