Happy to report that A Meditation on Murder was an instant national bestseller. Quite the thrill! The third book about Helen Thorpe, Contemplation of a Crime will be out in May, 2025. I’m very excited about that one. Yes, I love all my book babies, but I think Helen fans are going to particularly enjoy it. Or at least they’ll sympathize deeply with the situation in which poor Helen finds herself.
In the meantime, I’m hard at work on a standalone title that, as of this writing, has no title. I can tell you that it’s a thriller and it moves between the 80s and our current moment. I’ve been reading many, many thrillers by writers ranging from Canada’s own Chevy Stevens, Shari Lapena, Gail Anderson-Dargatz, to name just a few of our stellar thriller writers, to other luminaries like Lucy Foley and Ruth Ware. I’m also re-listening to all of John Sandford’s books, all thirty-four of them. Along the way I’ve developed something of an obsession with Freida McFadden. She’s funny and smart and great at creating appealing characters and her books are full of twists so fierce you need a chiropractor when you’re done. I may start a fan club specifically for Suicide Med. You’ll know why if you’ve read it. It’s bonkers and ridiculously entertaining and could only be pulled off by a true master.
Am also hoping to revamp this barely functional website sometime soon. [Insert scaredy face emoji here.]
I will be appearing at the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts on August 17 at 10:30 and will be at the Victoria Writers Festival on September 21 and 22.
Now I must go because I just worked out for the first time in about two months and cannot hold my arms up to type any more. I would like it noted that I was supervised by a spider that lives in our basement. It is considerably bigger than either of my biceps and that was somehow inspiring. It should probably get a youtube channel so it can yell (in a quiet, spidery voice) at people to lift harder.
